Quote from Subtle Changes For the Audi S4 :
The 2010 edition of Audi's iconic S4 sees many subtle revamp in the previous year`s model. While on the top it might seem like minor refresh, beneath the bonnet there are a few big changes afoot using the powertrain. Apparently, even the stalwart German fancy car manufacturers aren´t resistant to the cries of shoppers being worn down on the gas pump by their fun and throaty (yet aggressively thirsty) V‐8s. In a come back to form, Audi has downsized in the 8 with a newly designed supercharged V–6 that cranks out 333—horsepower.
While what a 7 hp decline in the previous model, Audi makes a strong argument for getting much more within the trade. While a 7hp drop sounds steep, they jump to 324.5 lb—ft of torque, a gain of virtually 23 lb‐ft. And you get that torque at lower revs. Add that towards the weight savings from dropping the above cylinders and you´ve got a more nimble power plant which gives all of you the S4 thrills you‘ve visit expect while turning what was once a sucker punch at the gas pump into a greater portion of the light source open–handed slap over the face.
Audi aficionados might remember fondly the 6—cylinder from older generations of the S4, but unlike the old twin‐turbo V–6, this model uses a single supercharger. So you can be confident inside knowledge that Audi knows some things about the forced injection.
